AUTOCROSS CARBALLO (Spanish Championship)

The fifth round of the 2017 Spanish Autocross championship was held at Carballo the first weekend of July. The race weekend was run with very good weather and big crowds in the track located in the Coruña region, and produced good results for the Speed Car drivers, with three podiums for Jordi Nualart and Juanjo Moll in Car Cross, and Josep Arqué in the Junior category. Firthermore, Moll remains at the lead of the championship in the Car Cross category and Ares Lahoz is first overall in the junior series with just two more races to go.

DIVISION III

Delfín Lahoz
(8th Div.III)

The damage suffered by Delfin's Speed Car

The Division III ended up being the one that produced less satisfactory results for the Speed Car drivers, with an eventfull final where Delfín Lahoz could barely run a few meters because a hit from another competitor that tore out the left rear wheel of his car, forcing him to retire and being classified eight, while Juanjo Aranda also suffered a contact and could just complete one lap, having to settle for fifth. Quite a shame as both had showed their speed in qualifying and the heats. Actually, Aranda was the fastest in the timed practice, with Delfín scoring the fourth best time to then being second in the three heats and get the second position of the grid for the final, three positions ahead of Aranda, fifth after the heats. Sadly they couldn't defend their chances in the final race. Anyway, the points scored wuth the fifth position allow Aranda to be third in the overall standings, barely twenty points behind the leader when there are still sixty for grabs in the last two rounds of the season.

CAR CROSS

Jordi Nualart
(2nd CarCross)

Juanjo Moll
(3rd CarCross)

Pau Aulet
(11th CarCross)

Yet another podium for Juan José Moll, who stays at the front of the Spanish Car Cross Championship after being third in Carballo. This time, the 'Escudería Mollerusa' driver wasn't the best classified at the wheel of a Xtrem, as just ahead of him finished his team mate Jordi Nualart, but regarding the series results Moll got the points for the second position and gets closer to clinch the title he already won last year.

For Jordi Nualart, the second position in Carballo is his second consecutive podium after the third place scored at the previous round of the series.

Three more Speed Car Xtrem, driven by Aulet, Casadevall and Puigvert, also got to the 'top15' final after having been among the fastest since practice. No less than five Xtrem where in the top teen in qualifying, with Moll being the first, Casadevall fourth, Aulet sixth, Nualart eigth and Puigvert tenth.

Jordi Puigvert
(12nd CarCross)

David Casadevall
(14th CarCross)

Manuel Moya
(8th Final C)

Four of them got directly to the final after the heats, Casadevall in first position with three wins in his three races, Moll in third, with two wins and a third position, Nualart in fifth after being second twice and third one time, and Aulet, eigth with a second and two fourth places. Puigvert, who finished 19th after the heats, had to go trough the final B, where he was second and got a spot in the final.

A contact between Moll and Casadevall at the begining of the final left the later out and delayed Moll, who had to recover and crossed the finish line in third position, behind Nualart who was second. The next Speed Car driver under the chequered flag was Puigvert, who finshed ninth althought a post race penalty meant he was classified in 12nd position, right behind Aulet who got the 11th place.

the junior category

Josep Arqué
(2nd junior)

Ares Lahoz
(5th junior)

The Juniors final race was also quite eventfull, with a clash in the first meters that involved a third of the competitors. Among them was Ares Lahoz, who managed to go on althought with her car badly managed so she had to run slowly to at least cover enough distance to be classified fifth, a result that put her at the front of the championship standings. The second overall in the series is her brand mate, Joan Salichs, who also suffered damage in his Xtrem at the same incident, having to retire and being classified in eight position, one place ahead of Pol Catalá, who coulnd't complete the race neither after being hit by a rival and getting stuck against the barriers.

Laura Lista
