AUTOCROSS CARBALLO (Spanish championship)


The second half of the 2018 Spanish Autocross Championship started at Galicia with the fifth round of the series, held at Carballo. Despite the heavy rain that forced to modify the schedule on Saturday, the event was completed on Sunday with a record entry and yet another good outcome for the Speed Car drivers.

In Carcross, Josep Arqué scored his first win in the category with the Xtrem, while in the division III Juan José Aranda was again on the podium, this time on the second step.

Even if he missed the victry by just half a second, Juan Jose Aranda showed again at Carballo that he's one of the main contenders for the title in the division III with another great drive at the wheel of his Speed Car TTR. After winning the two previous rounds of the series, Aranda started in the best possible way his run at Carballo being fastest in qualifying and winning the two heats.

In the final, the Speed Car driver has to settle for second under the chequered flag, just sixth tenths behind the winnar after a close fight along the nine laps of the race.

The always competitive Carcross category was more populated than in any other round of this season with 55 entries at Carballo, 15 being the Xtrem from Speed Car, again the most represented model in an event of the national series.

Five of them got to the final for the best 15 of the weekend althought among them wasn't, as usual, the current champion and winner of most races so far this season, Juan José Moll. The driver from Lerida was unlucky this time and couldn't go trough the heats, that were reduced in number on Saturday because the rain, which made this phase even more though as there was no chance at all to recover from any mistake or mechanichal issue.

Anyway there was again a Speed Car driver on the top of the podium at the end of the final race: Josep Arqué. The young driver from the Escudería Mollerusa was showing at every race his great progress in his first year in the category and at Carballó scored his first win after a perfect start followed by a very good pace that allow him the get away from his rivals to get to the finish line in first position at the wheel of his Xtrem almost nine seconds clear of his closest follower.

Very close to a podium position finished his teammante Jordi Colomer, fourth just half second behind the third. He was followed un der the chequered flag by another Speed Car driver from the Escudería Mollerusa, Pau Aulet, fifth at the end of the race.

Jordi Puigvert, in eleventh position, also completed the nine laps of the final, while David Casadevall and Antón Muiños couldn't finish the race, being classified 14th and 15th.

CAR CROSS JUNIOR

Bad luck this time for Pol Catalá and Arnau Biosca, the two Speed Car driver with best results so far this year in the Junior category. A contact between them, when they were fighting for third position left both out of the race with three laps to go so they ended up eight and ninth in the final results.

Ahead of them were classified three more drivers racing at Carballo at the wheel of the Xtrem's built by Industrias Lahoz. Fith was Josep Aranda, sixth was Eduard Bañeres, who crossed the finish line third but got a three position penalty, and seventh was Laura Lista.
